Hyderabad: Cyber fraudsters duped a Manager of a private company of Rs 25 lakh after impersonating as the Managing Director of the company.
The Manager (Accounts) received a message from a new number on his phone with the sender claiming to be the Managing Director of the company, who was out on a foreign tour, and asking to send the details of the funds in the company account. Believing the message to be genuine, the Manager shared the details of the funds.
“The impersonator asked him to transfer Rs 25 lakh immediately to a bank account to finalise a business deal. The victim transferred the amount to the account. The impersonator then asked for another Rs 40 lakh. On getting suspicion, the Manager called up the MD of the company, who denied sending any such message,” said the Cybercrime police.
The victim then approached the police, who registered a case and are investigating.
