Hyderabad: Cybercrimes in the Cyberabad Commissionerate of the city shot up by 122 per cent with the victims losing a whopping Rs.793 crore to the cyber fraudsters this year. The police have registered 11,914 cases across the commissionerate.
Among the crimes, part-time job fraud, trading fraud, smishing fraud, digital arrest fraud and vishing frauds topped the list of 38 modus operandi adopted by the cyber fraudsters to cheat people.
The Cyberabad police received 30,883 petitions from victims of cyber frauds and a total of 11,914 cases were registered. “In more than 50 per cent of the cases, we could put the payments on hold.
After due process we will be streamlining the process for refund of the amount and hand it over to the victims,” said Cyberabad Commissioner of Police, Avinash Mohanty.
The victims lost a whooping Rs.793 crore to cyber fraudsters during the year and the highest amount Rs. 173 crore was lost by around 3267 persons who were duped on pretext of part time jobs.
The Cyberabad cybercrimes police during the year arrested 534 persons from across the country in 372 cases.
DCP Cybercrime, Sree Bala Devi, said the cyber-crime police station is conducting a mega awareness campaign by roping in volunteers. “In a recent program we reached around 10 lakh people through direct campaign and another 85 million people were reached through online modes including social media platforms,” she said.
