Cyclone Montha disrupts over 130 train services across SCR zone

Cyclone Montha has disrupted 132 trains under the South Central Railway zone, with 107 cancelled and several diverted or rescheduled. Train services to coastal Andhra towns were worst affected. SCR officials assured full refunds and continuous safety monitoring

Hyderabad: Cyclone Montha has severely impacted train operations under the South Central Railway (SCR) zone. Authorities have gone on high alert as the cyclone approaches the east coast, prompting large-scale cancellations and route diversions to ensure passenger safety.

According to SCR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) A Sridhar, the train movement has been significantly disrupted, with a total of 132 trains affected so far.

“Out of these, 107 trains have been cancelled, six have been diverted, 18 rescheduled, one restored, and one temporarily cancelled,” he said.

Train services towards the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, particularly Kakinada, Bhimavaram, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry and Visakhapatnam have been the worst hit due to heavy rains and high wind speeds expected along the coastal belt.

On the other hand, Railway officials said all necessary safety precautions have been taken and control rooms are actively monitoring the situation round-the-clock.

Passengers have been advised to check real-time updates on the official Indian Railways website, NTES app or helplines before commencing their journey. The SCR has also assured that full refunds will be provided for all cancelled trains.

Authorities said they were continuously coordinating with the Meteorological Department and local administrations to assess the evolving situation and resume services once conditions were safe.
