Dana White has revealed that Vladimir Putin gifted Russian MMA icon Khabib Nurmagomedov $20million after his stunning win over Conor McGregor.
Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor in the fourth round of their grudge match at UFC 229 to retain his UFC lightweight title in October 2018, McGregor was forced to tap out to Khabib during their lightweight title fight.
En route to the neck crank finish the Dagestani grappler mauled McGregor on the ground and even dropped the Irishman with a clean overhand right in the second stanza.
The victory propelled Nurmagomedov to the top of the sport and sent shockwaves around the MMA world.
Everyone wanted to talk to the pound-for-pound king after his historic victory, including the Russian president.
But Putin was left waiting after a brawl broke out in the immediate aftermath of the fight between McGregor and Nurmagomedov’s entourages.
When he eventually got him on the phone, White claims Putin offered Nurmagomedov and his late father Abdulmanap $20m worth of property in their home country.
“He (Nurmagomedov) didn’t even make it back to his dressing room after the fight, and Putin was on the phone,” White told the Games with Names podcast
“Putin gave him and his father, like, $20 million [£15.7m in today’s money] worth of property in Russia.
“Then he went into the Muslim territories where these guys are like, cars, money, gyms, whatever he wanted.”
