Eramaina Mallaiah borrowed huge amounts of money from friends and relatives after he suffered losses in agriculture, sold half-acre land to meet daughter’s wedding expenses
Siddipet: Drying crops drove a farmer to suicide at Manthur village in Raipole mandal on Wednesday.
Eramaina Mallaiah (50) borrowed huge amounts of money from friends and relatives after he suffered losses in agriculture. He also sold his half-acre land to meet his daughter’s wedding expenses.
According to the villagers, Mallaiah had then hired a piece of land from a local farmer and cultivated paddy with a hope of getting rich returns. However, his hopes faded as the crop withered out due to lack of water during the Yasangi season.
Seeing no hope of clearing his mounting debts, Mallaiah hanged himself at his agriculture field on Wednesday. The incident left the farmers in shock in the village.
The police have registered a case and are investigating.
