‘Deja vu’: BJP leader slams Congress as Anil Antony quits party, recalls ‘I was forced out’

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla today slammed Congress after AK Antony’s son, Anil Antony announced his resignation from the party following pressure to delete his tweet against BBC documentary on Narendra Modi. Launching a scathing attack on Congress, Shehzad Poonawalla recalled that he was also forced out of the party and said “nothing has changed.”

Shehzad Poonawalla said that Anil Antony’s resignation from Congress is deja vu for him as he recalled that he was forced out for speaking against dynasty. “Nothing has changed in Congress,” he added. He said that the party has “emergency, intolerant mindset”.

In his tweet, the BJP leader also took a dig at the Bharat Jodo Yatra, spearheaded by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and said “pehle Congress Jodo.” Congress has been claiming that the aim of the foot march is to unite the country, which they claimed, has been divided by the ruling BJP.

Notably, Shehzad was ‘disowned’ by Congress in 2017 when he questioned the candidature of Rahul Gandhi. His brother Tehseen Poonawalla, wife Monicka Vedera Poonawalla, cousin of Robert Vadra, also distanced themselves from Shehzad and the controversy.

Earlier while speaking to Times Now, Anil Antony had said that he had been receiving thousands of calls to take down tweet.

“Whatever I’ve tweeted was not against the Congress policy. I don’t think it is appropriate to play politics with it (BBC documentary). But then I’ve got thousands of calls to take down that tweet. This is what prompted me to resign,” he told Times Now.

He added, “I’ve got hundreds of messages of hate and threat. That is why I thought that it is a wrong place for me. 1000% these threats are coming from within the party. I know them. I would blame certain elements of the state (Kerala Congress).”

“Whatever has been said on love, affection and free speech, it is a big joke to what I have experienced,” Anil Antony said.
