Drilling as part of Vastu modification leads to cladding collapse at Telangana Secretariat
Construction firm Shapoorji Pallonji says the building remains structurally safe, review of the incident underway
Hyderabad: The ongoing structural modifications at the Telangana State Secretariat reportedly led to parts of a glass reinforced concrete (GRC) cladding of the building collapsing near Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s chamber and damaged a four-wheeler parked near the building. However, no injuries were reported as the area was unoccupied when the incident occurred.
Official sources said the incident occurred while some modifications were being carried out to comply with Vastu. The structure damaged the car of the Ramagundam Market Committee chairman. Officials immediately cordoned off the section to prevent further mishaps.
Construction firm Shapoorji Pallonji denied any defects, attributing the collapse to drilling work being conducted as part of departmental operations for lighting and cabling. The company clarified that only parts of the GRC structure were meant for cladding and attributed the incident to the drilling work after preliminary investigation. It assured that the building remained structurally safe and that a review of the incident was underway.
