Enforcement teams ahead of the Jubilee Hills bye-election seized Rs 34 crore worth of cash, liquor, drugs, and freebies after the Model Code of Conduct came into force. Authorities have booked 22 cases, including poll violations and illegal inducements

Hyderabad: Enforcement teams set up for the Jubilee Hills Assembly bye-election have seized items worth Rs 33,84,76,633, including cash, liquor, drugs, and freebies, after the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into force on October 6.

District Election Officer R.V. Karnan deployed Flying Squad Teams (FSTs), Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs), Video Surveillance Teams (VSTs), and Video Viewing Teams (VVTs) to enforce MCC violations in the constituency.

At checkposts set up across the assembly constituency, officials seized a total of Rs 3,31,07,990. Of this, FSTs seized Rs 58,23,600 and SSTs seized Rs 1,32,19,390. Teams also seized 648.595 litres of liquor worth Rs 4,47,778 and drugs, including 0.624 kg of ganja and 0.011 grams of MDMA, valued at Rs 1,47,600. Freebies worth Rs 1,37,840 were recovered, including a laptop, vehicles, cookers, and sarees.

Authorities have booked 22 cases, including 14 for poll violations, two for inducement or gratification to electors and cash distribution, and six for illegal meetings and speeches without permission. A poll duty official said enforcement teams intensified checks as the date of polling was less than a week away.
