Expert Working Group submits report on caste survey to Telangana govt

The expert committee’s findings would help the State government formulate and streamline policies to enable social justice.

Hyderabad: The Independent Expert Working Group (IEWG) Committee, constituted to study the Socio-Economic, Educational, Employment, Political and Caste Survey (SEEEPC) on Saturday submitted a 300-page report on its findings to the State government.

The committee’s findings would help the State government formulate and streamline policies to enable social justice. At a meeting held here on Saturday, the committee shared its findings with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and other Cabinet Ministers.

After the SEEEPC survey findings were tabled on the floor of the Legislative Assembly, the State government had on March 12 appointed a high-level independent committee of 11 members, headed by retired Supreme Court Judge Justice Sudarshan Reddy, to conduct an independent verification, analysis, and comprehensive study of the data and its findings.

It was finalised from the survey that the State has over 3,55,50,759 households, with a total population of 3.55 crore.

A breakup of communities was worked out and accordingly OCs constituted 56,13,389 people (15.79 percent), SCs comprised 61,91,294 (17.42 percent), STs comprised 37,08,408 people (10.43) percent, and OBCs comprised 2,00,37,668 people (56.36 percent).

As per the findings of the caste survey, the population of the OBCs (Hindus only) was 1,64,09,179 people, comprising 46.25 percent, while Muslims only population was found to be 35,76,588 people, comprising 10.08 percent.
