Explained: How India can still reach Asia Cup final after defeat against Sri Lanka

India’s 2022 Asia cup campaign suffered a major blow as they suffered another last-over defeat on Tuesday (September 6) at the hand of Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium. The Men in Blue have now lost two games in a row in the Super 4 stage of the competition

While India face a massive fight to reach the final, they still have a chance to not be knocked out of the competition. However, a victory for Pakistan against Afghanistan on Wednesday (September 7) in Sharjah will end India’s campaign and confirm a Pakistan-Sri Lanka final on Sunday (September 11).

If Afghanistan pull off an upset, India will remain in contention to reach the final. This will require the Men in Blue to win their last league stage game against Afghanistan on Thursday (September 8). If India is able to do that and Sri Lanka beat Pakistan on Friday (September 10), the Men in Blue will reach the summit clash if they are able to pip Pakistan and Afghanistan on Net Run Rate in the table.
