Eyeing 2024, Amit Shah, JP Nadda hold key BJP meet to chalk out plan to bag 144 ‘weak’ LS seats

Alarmed by hectic parleys by the Opposition camp ahead of the 2024 general elections, the BJP has started chalking out a strategy for winning the 144 Lok Sabha seats the party missed by narrow margins in the previous election in 2019.

BJP chief JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a crucial brainstorming session on Tuesday at the party headquarters in Delhi with key party leaders and Union ministers tasked with boosting its prospects in 144 Lok Sabha seats.

In the 2019 Lok Sabh polls, the BJP had secured majority on its own by winning 303 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats.

Over 25 Union ministers, including Bhupender Yadav, Giriraj Singh, Smriti Irani, Parshottam Rupala and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, attended the meeting with Nadda and Shah.

The list of 144 Lok Sabha seats includes constituencies where the BJP either faced defeat or came second or third in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. The constituencies also includes a few winning seats due to difficult demographic and regional factors.

According to sources, the ministers, who have been appointed as in-charge of three to four such Lok Sabha seats, presented a detailed report about the work undertaken by them.

The party has divided the 144 Lok Sabha seats, considered difficult for it in previous election, into clusters and appointed one Union minister as their in-charge.

Over the last few months, the ministers were sent to all Assembly segments within these constituencies including in the states of West Bengal, Telangana, Maharashtra, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, to assess the political situation there.

The sources said the ministers paid visits to most of these constituencies and gathered electorally crucial details.

The ministers, the sources said, have done a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis of the BJP’s position in these constituencies and devised a strategy to ensure its victory in the 2024 elections, PTI reported.

The party has also drawn a detailed blueprint on these constituencies which include information on religion, caste, geography, inclination of voters and the reasons behind it, they added.

The BJP’s crucial meeting for 2024 polls comes amid the Opposition camp’s major push for the general elections. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar earlier today visited Delhi to meet leaders of the Congress and other parties.
