Adilabad: Farmers expressed anger over the restrictions imposed by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) on cotton procurement at the Adilabad agricultural market yard on Monday.
They said the CCI had recently issued an order reducing the procurement limit from 13 quintals per acre to 7 quintals, which has caused concern among growers. Farmers also expressed dissatisfaction with the existing restrictions on permissible moisture content in cotton, saying they were already struggling to meet those norms.
Several farmers said they were facing difficulties in registering their names on the Kisan Kapas mobile application. Many were forced to depend on operators of Xerox and Mee-Seva centres to upload their details, paying service charges in the process. A large number of farmers reportedly withheld their produce in protest against the new restrictions.
Meanwhile, former minister Jogu Ramanna criticised the union government for tightening procurement conditions, saying it had failed to grant exemptions for cotton with higher moisture content while also capping the total quantity to be procured. He demanded that the government withdraw the limits immediately.
