First chemotherapy centre in Telangana inaugurated at Siddipet

Health minister T. Harish Rao inaugurated the state’s first day care chemotherapy centre in Siddipet.

HYDERABAD: Health minister T. Harish Rao inaugurated the state’s first daycare chemotherapy centre in Siddipet. The government plans to establish similar facilities in eight medical colleges and all 33 districts. The Siddipet Centre has four beds and issues 60 types of medicines supplied by MNJ Cancer Hospital. Patients referred by MNJ and Nims hospitals can access chemotherapy services.

With 468 cases of various types of cancer in Siddipet, the government was working to take measures to prevent cancer. Tests worth 4 lakhs like with CBP, RFT, and LFT required for every chemotherapy patient for each cycle will be provided free, Harish Rao said.

Meanwhile, in a review meeting that Harish Rao conducted with senior health officials, Rao said that under the government’s Kanti Velugu programme, over 1.17 crore people had undergone eye examinations in 59 working days since it began. The programme was on its way to reaching its target of two crore people. He appreciated the efforts of officials on the success of the programme.

The minister directed the district medical and health officials to ensure that Kanti Velugu was accessible to everyone who needed it and that the remaining districts complete their targets within 41 working days. The minister ordered an increase in the number of special camps organized by courts, jails, police, press, and RTC for the distribution of glasses.
