Food, clothing, shelter are fundamental rights: HC Judge

 KAKINADA: AP State Legal Service Authority executive chairman and AP High Court Judge Akula Venkata Sesha Sai said basic necessities like food, clothing and shelter should be provided to all people, regardless of their economic status or social standing.

“These three are fundamental rights of the people guaranteed under the Constitution. Courts should safeguard these rights,” Justice Sesha Sai underlined, inaugurating the remodelled District Legal Service Authority building at Rajamahendravaram on Sunday, along with AP High Court judges Manvendra Roy and T. Mallikarjuna Rao and East Godavari district principal judge Gandham Sunitha.

Justice Sesha Sai underlined that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar framed the fundamental rights and prescriptive principles within the Indian Constitution, so that no Indian citizen faces injustice due to his economic or social status.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Manavendra Roy said legal service authorities, introduced by Justice Bhagawat in 1987 at mandal, state and national level, are providing justice to people. He exhorted people to know rights.

Justice Mallikarjuna Rao stressed that it is the responsibility of judges to provide justice to the poor by implementing laws effectively.

District principal Judge Sunitha pointed out that the District Legal Service Authority had identified nine children, who lost their parents during Covid-19 pandemic period, and ensured that 10 lakh financial assistance reached each of them.
