From ‘BJP can take away my house’ to ‘MP is just a tag’: 5 quotes from Rahul Gandhi’s Wayanad speech

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today visited his former constituency, Wayanad in Kerala – for the first time since his disqualification as an MP over his conviction in a 2019 criminal defamation case. He waved to his supporters from atop a car during a roadshow ‘Satyameva Jayate’. He was accompanied by his sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Hundreds of United Democratic Front (Congress-led state opposition alliance) workers and supporters turned up for the roadshow with the Indian Tricolour in support of Gandhi. The Congress leader was recently convicted and sentenced to two years in jail by a Surat court over his ‘Modi surname’ remark at a rally in the run-up to the 2019 general election.

“How come all thieves have the common surname Modi?” Gandhi had said in Karnataka. The court verdict disqualified Gandhi from his Lok Sabha membership and he also had to vacate his official home.
