Gang breaks into SBI ATM in Rangareddy, flees with Rs 30 lakh cash

The entire operation was executed within four minutes, prompting the police to suspect the involvement of an interstate professional gang in the burglary

Hyderabad: In a major heist, a four-member gang broke into an ATM centre at Raviryal village in Maheshwaram mandal of Rangareddy district and decamped with around Rs 30 lakh in cash on Saturday night.

The entire operation was executed within four minutes, prompting the police to suspect the involvement of an interstate professional gang in the burglary.

According to the police, four persons came in a car to the SBI ATM centre at Raviryal village road around 1.55 am. After getting out of the car, one of the men came towards the ATM centre and, on noticing a surveillance camera affixed, sprayed paint on its lens. The burglars then cut off the power supply to the emergency alarm installed in the ATM centre.

The offenders walked into the ATM centre and, using an iron rod and gas cutter, they cut the cash dispensing machine. The gang swiftly collected the cash from the machine and left. While leaving the ATM centre, they downed the shutter of the ATM centre so that people might assume the facility is closed. The bank officials, who were alerted in the morning, informed the police about the burglary.

“It appears to be the handiwork of an interstate gang. Special teams have been formed to track down and nab all those involved,” said DCP Maheshwaram, P Sunitha Reddy.

The police are analysing CCTV footage from cameras installed on the roads of the area to nab the accused.
