Khammam: A gang cheating farmers by installing tampered microchips in electronic weighing machines used in cotton purchases was busted under Tallada police station limits in the district, said Kallur ACP Vasundhara Yadav.
She said that based on reliable information, the accused Ogilishetty Shankar and Jampala Koteswara Rao of Hyderabad were arrested on Wednesday and sent to judicial remand.
The Tallada police found that the accused supplied weighing machines with tampered chips, calibrated to show a higher digital reading instead of actual weight, to many traders across the State. The police seized five motherboards (PCB), four microchips, two electronic weighing machines and other equipment from the accused.
The ACP advised farmers to be vigilant against the use of tampered electronic weighing machines by the traders and inform police if any trader was found to be using such weighing machines.
