Kothagudem: Ganja weighing 1000 kg was seized at Kunavaram in Alluri Sitharama Raju district of AP on Telangana-Andhra Pradesh borders and three persons were arrested.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Chinturu ASP Pankaj Kumar Meena informed that Kunavaram Sub-Inspector of Police and staff while conducting vehicle inspections at Jaggavarm junction on Wednesday stopped a truck and when checked it found the ganja packed in 25 plastic bags.
The seller of ganja, Syamal Dey alias Syamel of Mv81 village of Kalimela block in Malkangiri district of Odisha, drivers Sheik Sahaalam and Sheik Aktar of Murshidabad district in West Bengal were arrested.
The buyer of seized ganja, Dinesh, owners of the seized vehicle and mediators in transporting the ganja Masadul Islam Molla and Mukarib Hossain and transporter of seized ganja from Delhi to Haryana, Kumar alias Dheeraj were absconding, the ASP said.
The worth of the seized ganja was Rs 50 lakh. The truck and four mobiles were seized by the police. The route of the ganja transportation was Kalimela-Chinturu-Kunavaram-Bhadrachalam-Haryana, he added.
How the truck carrying such a huge quantity of ganja passed through Bhadrachalam town in Kothagudem district, unchecked and entered AP remained a million dollar question to be answered.
