Gautam Gambhir clears equation with Virat Kohli with a heart-warming response

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir’s response to a question regarding Virat Kohli’s 50th ODI century gained widespread attention on social media and for all good reasons. Remember, the two cricketing legends had a heated exchange during the IPL 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore when Gambhir was LSG’s mentor.

The intense moment during the IPL 2023 wasn’t the first-ever spat between Gambhir and Kohli as a similar incident happened in the IPL 2013 match between RCB and KKR.

“Against which bowler did Virat Kohli score his 50th ODI hundred?” In a viral clip, Gambhir was asked on Star Sports. Gambhir responded quite confidently that Kohli’s 50th hundred came off New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson’s delivery. His fellow expert, Piyush Chawla was also left impressed with the reply. Gambhir was visibly pleased with his recollection of thought and went on to admit that his fight with Virat Kohli was limited to just the field.

“Please show this clip again and again. I remember everything. My fight is only on the field,” Gambhir said.

Notably, Kohli notched up his 50th ODI hundred and broke Sachin Tendulkar’s long-held record of most centuries in the format. Kohli achieved this feat during the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. After surpassing Tendulkar, Kohli added another feather to his already well-decorated hat of records and achievements.

Kohli and Gambhir played together for the Indian cricket team and Delhi’s Ranji team. The duo shared many crucial partnerships, including the one that came against Sri Lanka in the 2011 final. Kohli’s maiden ODI century also came when Gambhir was at the other end. Despite Gambhir receiving the Player of the Match award for scoring a century, he graciously handed it to Kohli in a widely appreciated gesture.

Gambhir’s heartwarming response to Kohli’s achievement came during a discussion on India’s 3rd ODI match against South Africa. India’s batting stalwart will be seen back in action in the Boxing Day Test match against South Africa at Centurion.
