GHMC speeds up road works near Secretariat to ease congestion

GHMC has begun road-leveling works near Tri-Island, close to BRK Bhavan, to ease traffic congestion for commuters heading towards the Secretariat and Lakdi-ka-Pul. The project, costing Rs 84 lakh, aims to create a free left turn for vehicles coming from Adarsh Nagar and MLA Quarters, following traffic police observations of frequent accidents at the junction.

Hyderabad: In what could bring major relief to hundreds of commuters heading towards Secretariat and Lakdi-ka-Pul, the road leveling works are progressing at a brisk pace near Tri-Island, close to BRK Bhavan, Secretariat.

The GHMC engineering wing-Gun Foundry officials said the works were aimed at creating a free left turn for road users coming from Adarsh Nagar and MLA Quarters, allowing them to proceed towards the Secretariat and Lakdi-ka-Pul.

Traffic police have observed that the commuters are facing issues while travelling on the existing road to proceed towards the Secretariat and Lakdi-ka-Pul.  Accidents occur after the motorists join the traffic coming from the other side (from Tank Bund) and proceed towards the Secretariat. “Based on the traffic police observations, the GHMC decided to facilitate a free left to avoid road accidents,” Executive Engineer, GHMC Radhika told Telangana Today.

Moreover, this initiative is part of a broader effort to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the area. By providing a dedicated left turn, the civic body hopes to ease the bottleneck that often occurs at this junction, especially during peak hours. GHMC is spending Rs 84 lakh, and the works will be completed within a month, added the official.
