Government orders inquiry after six electrocuted in Hyderabad procession

Six people died after being electrocuted by a live wire during a Shobha Yatra in Hyderabad’s Ramanthapur. IT Minister Sridhar Babu announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for each victim and ordered an inquiry to identify those responsible

Hyderabad: Announcing an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the family members of six persons who were electrocuted while taking part in a Shobha Yatra at Ramanthapur, IT Minister Sridhar Babu said the accident was caused by live current passing through a cable wire.

The Minister, who visited Gandhi Hospital on Monday to check on patients undergoing treatment and interact with the bereaved family members, said the entire medical expenses of the injured will be borne by the government.

“This incident is extremely tragic and unfortunate, and I extend my deep condolences to the families of the deceased. It is all the more distressing that the mishap occurred when the Shobha Yatra was just 100 meters from its conclusion,” Sridhar Babu said.

The Minister said he has instructed officials to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident under the supervision of the District Collector.

“Strict action will be taken against those found responsible after the inquiry report is submitted. We have also ordered a special inquiry in Greater Hyderabad to review and address the risks posed by hanging cable and electric wires,” Sridhar Babu added.
