Gram panchayat polls: BRS comes up with strong show in Adilabad region

BRS-backed sarpanch candidates have performed strongly in Adilabad district local body polls, winning 224 villages across two phases. The party secured notable victories in Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts, consolidating its presence in the region

Adilabad: The BRS continued to put up a strong performance in the local body polls held in the first and second phases across the erstwhile Adilabad district.

According to party leaders, BRS-backed sarpanch candidates won in 224 villages across the two phases of elections in the erstwhile Adilabad district, where polls have been conducted so far in 1,020 gram panchayats. The party registered victories in 121 villages in the first phase and 103 villages in the second phase across the four districts of Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad.

In Adilabad district, as many as 47 BRS-supported sarpanch candidates won in the first phase, while 29 sarpanch candidates emerged victorious in the second phase. In Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, the party-backed candidates secured wins to become sarpanches in 45 villages in the first phase, followed by victories in 40 villages in the second phase.

The party’s performance was particularly notable in the second phase, with the BRS bagging 15 villages out of a total of 22 in Bejjur mandal and 11 villages out of 20 in Koutala mandal. Six BRS-backed candidates won in Chintalamanepalli mandal, while four each emerged victorious in Dahegaon and Penchikalpet mandals. Three candidates supported by the party clinched victories in three villages in Sirpur (T) mandal.

In Mancherial district, 16 BRS-backed sarpanch candidates won in the first phase, while 26 candidates supported by the party won as sarpanches in the second phase. In Nirmal district, 18 sarpanch candidates endorsed by the BRS emerged victorious in the first phase, while three party-backed candidates defeated their opponents in the second phase.
