Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP), Secunderabad, and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) jointly busted an interstate drug smuggling racket operating from Rayagada in Odisha to Mumbai and arrested a man and a woman with marijuana worth Rs 9.4 lakh on Wednesday.
The arrested persons were identified as Ajay Kumar (35) and his sister-in-law Rina Devi (40), both from Nalanda in Bihar. The main suspect, Pankaj, from Odisha, who is believed to have supplied the contraband, is absconding.
According to the police, Ajay Kumar and Rina Devi had agreed to transport marijuana for Rs 5,000 each per trip. They collected the consignment from Pankaj in the Muniguda forest area of Odisha, who provided them with two trolley suitcases containing the contraband and train tickets to Mumbai.
“The duo boarded the Mumbai LTT Express with marijuana concealed in their luggage. We caught them during surprise checks at Secunderabad railway station and seized it from them,” said a GRP official. The police seized 18.823 kg of marijuana worth Rs 9.4 lakh from their possession.
