The new rules comes into effect from March 1
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has made traffic rules more stringent. The move follows after the High Court came down heavily on motorists for flouting rules at will.
Hefty fines will be levied on those violating the new rules which come into effect from Saturday, March 1. The government has become strict with rash driving too. Performing racing or stunts too will not be taken kindly.
And this does not stop here. While the first time may not pinch pocket, repeat offences will attract huge penalties —in some cases like talking on cell phone while driving the fine increases 6 times.
Here’s how you will be fined if…
Driving without a helmet: Rs 1,000. The same fine applies to pillion riders and triple-riding too
No seat belt: Rs 1,000
Drunk driving: Rs 10,000, licence too will be cancelled
Minor is caught driving: Rs 25,000 besides a jail term for three years
Permitting minor to drive: Rs 1,000 and imprisonment for up to three months
No driving licence: Rs 5,000 fine and the vehicle will be seized
No pollution certificate: Rs 1,500
No insurance: Rs 2,000. Repeat offence: Rs 4,000
Registration renewal not in order: Rs 2,000 (first time), Rs 5,000 (second time).
Talking on cellphone while driving: Rs 1,500 (first time), Rs 10,000 (second time)
Speeding, rash driving and signal jumping: Rs 1,000
Performing racing or stunts: Rs 5,000, repeat offence Rs 10,000
The coalition government in the State is also implementing new rules for auto drivers. Auto drivers must be in uniform otherwise they will be fined Rs 150 for the first time and Rs 300 for repeat offence.
