Henry Cavill returning as Superman ‘in three new DC movies’ after Black Adam cameo

After losing out to Daniel Craig in the James Bond auditions for Casino Royale, Henry Cavill nevertheless continued to progress in his career and eventually bagged Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel. Since then, his much-loved Clark Kent has gone on to star in Batman v Superman and two versions of Justice League. However, his future in the franchise has remained uncertain for years, until now.

Thanks to the producing power of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Cavill was able to cameo in the mid-credits scene of Black Adam last weekend, thrilling fans that his Superman was finally back in the franchise.

The Witcher star took to social media to share how pleased he was to be back in the role, just as James Gunn takes over the newly rebooted DC Studios as co-CEO at Warner Bros.

The 39-year-old captioned his post: “A very small taste of what’s to come, my friends. The dawn of hope renewed. Thank you for your patience, it will be rewarded.”

Cavill said: “I wanted to wait until the weekend was over before posting this because I wanted to give you all a chance to watch Black Adam. But now that plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official that I am back as Superman. The image you see on this post and what you saw in Black Adam is a very small taste of things to come. There’s a lot to be thankful for and I’ll get to that in time, but I wanted to thank you guys most of all, thank you for your support and thank you for your patience. I promise it will be rewarded.”

Speaking recently with The Happy Sad, Confused podcast, he said: “Right now I can’t share anything … but in time, I’ll be able to share and everyone will hear all the exciting things to come. There is such a bright future ahead for the character, and I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.”

According to the outlet, Cavill will play Superman in Black Adam 2, Man of Steel 2 and Justice League 2.

The first one isn’t a surprise given his cameo in the first film and The Rock’s desire to see the superheroes battle each other on the big screen. Warner Bros are rumoured to be looking for writers for Man of Steel 2, but Justice League 2 will be a big surprise.

It took a lot for the Snyder Cut to be released with its cliffhanger ending, but perhaps Gunn and his team plan to let the sequel the director had originally intended be made?
