‘Himanta babu, come to my house for tea’: Kejriwal’s invitation to Assam CM

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accompanied by his Punjab contemporary Bhagwant Mann, arrived in Assam’s Guwahati on Sunday.

While addressing a gathering of party workers in Guwahati, Kejriwal invited Himanta Biswa Sarma to New Delhi, where he would take the Assam CM to his home for tea and also take the BJP leader for a ride around the national capital.

“Why is Himanta Biswa Sarma threatening me that if I come to Assam, I will be put behind bars?,” asked the AAP supremo even as he waxed eloquent about the people of Assam for their hospitality.

“I urge Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to learn about the Assamese tradition and culture properly,” was the Delhi CM’s advice for his Assam counterpart.

During the past few days, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken a tough stand against Kejriwal, more so after AAP’s state coordinator Dr. Bhaben Choudhury shared on his Twitter account how non-functional traffic lights and water-logging was plaguing Guwahati.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked Kejriwal to point out any case against him that is pending in court. The BJP leader also warned Kejriwal that he would sue him and file a defamation case against him if the Delhi CM dared to call him corrupt during his scheduled visit to the state.

The warning by Himanta Biswa Sarma did not deter Kejriwal from training guns at his Assam counterpart. Seeing the massive turnout of people who attended the Karyakarta Sammelan in Guwahati, Kejriwal took a jibe at Sarma saying, “Seeing the energy of the people of Assam, it seems as if Himanta Babu’s government will be uprooted today itself.”
