Hyderabad: Fatehnagar bridge staircase collapses, two injured

The incident occurred when the over 30-year-old pedestrian staircase which was already damaged, had suddenly collapsed when pedestrians were on it

Hyderabad: Two people were injured when a portion of the Fatehnagar flyover bridge staircase collapsed at Sanathnagar on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when the over 30-year-old pedestrian staircase which was already damaged, had suddenly collapsed when pedestrians were on it. Two persons who suffered injuries in the incident were immediately shifted to the nearby hospital for treatment.

HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath inspected the heavily damaged steps of Fatehnagar Bridge on Tuesday. It is understood that while descending from the dilapidated bridge steps, they broke and fell in two, causing serious injuries.

The local residents brought to the attention of the Commissioner that a weekly market is held in the area every Sunday and hundreds of people use the stairs during that time.

After the inspection, Ranganath concluded that it was not fit to use it as it reached a dilapidated state.

He further ordered officials to completely remove the stairs and advised to get the dilapidated structures in the city inspected by experts from the Civil Engineering Department and remove them before they turn dangerous. HYDRAA staff removed the steps.
