Hyderabad: Efforts are on to ensure the transgender community members get opportunities to earn a dignified living, senior officials from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Tuesday said.
As part of these efforts, GHMC Additional Commissioners, Sneha Shabarish and Chandrakanth Reddy held a meeting with the members of the transgender community to chalk out strategies aimed at providing them with meaningful employment.
Facilitated by GHMC’s Urban Community Development (UCD), the meeting focused on ways to upskill transgenders and have them in different roles. “We tried to gauge their qualifications and interests so that they can be offered job opportunities in various departments of GHMC,” said Sneha Shabarish.
Chandrakanth Reddy said depending on their interests, educational qualifications and skills, the transgender community members will be encouraged to choose a department.
The GHMC has already facilitated formation of three transgender Self Help Groups and provided bank linkages. “We have urged more number of community members to come forward and establish SHGs. There are several job opportunities where transgender community members can fit in,” he said.
