Hyderabad: The Vanasthalipuram police on Monday arrested two persons for allegedly kidnapping a senior High Court lawyer and demanding a ransom of Rs. 1 crore from his family.
P. Narayana (52), a practicing lawyer from Saraswathi Nagar in Vanasthalipuram, went missing after leaving for court on June 7. When he failed to return home, his worried wife, Suvarnamma, lodged a complaint with the Vanasthalipuram police the following day.
In her complaint, Suvarnamma stated that a man named Venkatesh had called her, claimed responsibility for the kidnapping, and demanded Rs. 1 crore for Narayana’s release, threatening to kill him if the demand wasn’t met.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police registered a case and launched an operation that led to Narayana’s rescue and the arrest of the accused, Venkatesh. Further investigation revealed that a land dispute in Medchal and Quthbullapur was the motive behind the abduction.
According to police, Narayana had acted as a mediator in a land deal in 2020 and allegedly took a commission of Rs. 35 lakh after facilitating an agreement worth Rs. 1 crore. The accused claimed he was abducted for not fulfilling his commitments after receiving the money. Another person, Ramesh, was also arrested in connection with the case.
The investigation is ongoing.
