Hyderabad: Officials seize 3,750 kg of spurious cotton seeds worth Rs 98.7 lakh, one person arrested

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Special Operations Team (SOT) in a joint operation with Shamirpet police and Agricultural Department officials busted a spurious cotton seeds racket and arrested one person on Wednesday night.
Officials seized 3,750 kg of spurious cotton seeds and a truck, altogether worth Rs 98.7 lakh.
The arrested person was identified as S Naresh, a truck driver from Mancherial district. The absconding suspects were Suresh, from Mancherial, and Ramana from Karnataka.
According to the police, Suresh hired Naresh for the transportation of prohibited (BG-III) cotton seeds from Ramana to Mancherial. For the assignment, he was paid Rs 50,000.
The duo wanted to make easy money and planned to sell these banned seeds to farmers in Mancherial district.
Based on a tip-off, the truck was caught at Thumukunta village in Shamirpet, and Naresh was nabbed.
The spurious seeds and truck were seized and handed over to the Shamirpet police for further investigation.
