Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police, in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs, have deported a Pakistani national who had allegedly been living illegally in India for over a decade.

The deportee, identified as Muhammad Usman alias Mohd Abbas Ikram (48), was handed over to Pakistan Rangers at the Attari Border in Punjab on September 9.

Police said Usman had illegally entered India through the Nepal border in 2011 and was subsequently involved in four criminal cases in Hyderabad for which he was convicted and imprisoned for various terms.

After completing all legal proceedings, he was lodged in the Detention Centre at CCS in Hyderabad on September 7, 2024. Following due process, his deportation was carried out on Tuesday.

The Detention Centre at CCS, established in August 2018, has so far housed 158 foreign detainees from 19 countries. Of them, 150 foreigners have already been deported. Most recently, on August 12, authorities deported 20 Bangladeshi nationals involved in illegal stay and human trafficking through the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand reiterated that strict action will continue against foreigners residing illegally in the city.
