Hyderabad: SCR, NDRF conduct joint mock drill on train accident at Bolarum Railway Station

Hyderabad: A full scale technical mock drill to rescue passengers trapped in a train accident was carried out at Bolarum railway station by the South Central Railway (SCR) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Thursday.
The mock drill was conducted in order to assess and enhance the efficiency and alertness of the staff to meet the challenges that arise during the incidents of emergency, the SCR said in a press release.
For the drill, a situation of around 15 passengers trapped inside closed train coaches due to incident was simulated. On receiving the information, the Accident Relief Train (ART) Team immediately proceeded while alerted by Railway Emergency Control Room, the NDRF Team also reached the place. Both Railway and NDRF teams conducted rescue operation and rescued the trapped passengers with their specialized equipment.
Hyderabad Division of SCR along with a team comprising 22 personnel from Regional Response Centre (RRC) Hyderabad, 10th Battalion of NDRF under the command of B Gowtham Kumar, Inspector/NDRF along with Railway ART, SPARMV (Self Propelled Accident Relief Medical Vans) teams carried out the joint mock drill exercise.
The objective of the mock drill was also to test the use of various equipment procured for use during disasters and undertake hands-on experience with tools like cold cutting equipment such as saber saw, abrasive cutter to cut the window rods and the coach body, which facilitates easy lifting of injured passengers and evacuate them from the affected coaches.
