She was asked to join an online group for daily review rating tasks, where she got scammed.
Hyderabad: A 21-year-old female student from the city became the latest target for the cyber fraudsters, who duped her to the tune of Rs 2 lakh promising high returns for investments.
According to the police, the student received a message on social media regarding an online rating task. She was asked to join an online group for daily review rating tasks. After joining, the scammers started asking her for a small investment, promising a higher refund in return. Initially, she received some money, which built trust.
Then, the scammers sent her a link, asking her to create a profile for a Bitcoin (BTC) account to supposedly earn more profits. They asked her to pay Rs 2 lakh, which she did. They further asked her to proceed to a third step, which involved another payment, with the promise of doubling the amount.
The victim refused to pay again, but the scammers insisted that only after this transaction would she receive a refund. They claimed she could not get her money back until the payment was made.
Realising that she was cheated, the student approached the police. A case is being investigated.
