Hyderabad: Transgender person arrested after Borabanda protest where eight attempted self-immolation

Police arrested transgender person Monalisa in Borabanda after a group accused her of harassment and forcing them into prostitution. The protest turned extreme when eight transgenders attempted self-immolation. All are undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital as the case is investigated.

Hyderabad: The Borabanda police arrested a transgender Monalisa on Wednesday evening and remanded her.

On Monday, a group of transgenders had staged a protest at Borabanda alleging Monalisa was harassing them and had earlier forced them into prostitution.

Eight transgenders in an attempt to end their lives had set themselves on fire during the protest on Monday.

They are undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital. On a complaint, the police registered a case against Monalisa and arrested on Wednesday evening.
