Hyderabad witnesses intense thunderstorms, brings respite from heatwave

Based on rainfall data from Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), between 8.30 pm on Friday and 7 am on Saturday, University of Hyderabad (Serilingampally mandal) received 54.5 mm of rainfall followed by Allapur, Vivekananda Nagar (Kukatpally mandal) in Medchal-Malkajgiri district received 508 mm of rainfall.

Hyderabad: After days of hot summer conditions, multiple locations in Hyderabad between Friday night and early hours of Saturday witnessed intense thunderstorms accompanied with hail. The intense but short spells of thunder storms brought much-needed respite to the people of Hyderabad, who endured a prolonged heat wave.

Based on rainfall data from Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), between 8.30 pm on Friday and 7 am on Saturday, University of Hyderabad (Serilingampally mandal) received 54.5 mm of rainfall followed by Allapur, Vivekananda Nagar (Kukatpally mandal) in Medchal-Malkajgiri district received 508 mm of rainfall.

According to TSDPS data, the rainfall received in other regions of Hyderabad include Madhapur (48.8 mm), Khairatabad (48.5 mm), Rajendranagar (47.5 mm), Gachibowli (45.8 mm), Kapra (39.3 mm) and Alwal (35.8 mm).

Apart from thunderstorms, reports have indicated that several regions of Banjara Hills, Miyapur, Tellapur, Gachibowli also received hail storms along with heavy downpour. On average, the spell of thunderstorms lasted for 30 to 40 minutes in a region before losing its intensity.
