HYDERABAD: Kerala natives staying in the city shared mixed views on ‘The Kerala Story’, a soon-to-be-released movie that follows the lives of a group of fictional young women, who convert to Islam and join ISIS.

M. Savin, who works as an HR professional, said that there have been cases in the state where girls went missing and police were on their trails.

“Political parties are trying to create communal ruckus and controversy in the state, which is not religiously inclined. But there might be an exaggeration in the movie, which will be known after the movie is out. The movie should be released and people should also come to know the story. I will go to watch the movie for sure,” said Savin.

However, not all were as enthusiastic, as others were against the title, claiming it did not portray the story of the state.

Parvathy Menon, a lecturer by profession, said, “From whatever we have heard so far about the movie, I strongly believe that this is not our story. The name of our state Kerala should not have been mentioned in the title. Keralites are not very welcoming about the title and the ideology behind that. I personally feel it can create some polarisation on the issue. Many people are interested in watching the movie and only after the movie is released, we can form an opinion about it.”

Syam Pillai, an IT professional, said, “Everyone has the right to freedom of expression, including those who have made the film and it should be released. Nothing should be banned. A movie cannot change someone’s mind who has their own opinion about things. Let the movie come out and let the people decide for themselves after watching it.”
