If it’s in his destiny…: Satya Pal Malik bats for Rajnath Singh for PM post
Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has batted for Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as a “serious candidate” for the post of Prime Minister, news agency PTI reported.
“If it is in his destiny, he will become one,” Satya Pal Malik said Monday of Rajnath Singh’s prospects as a prime ministerial candidate.
Malik, who has been at odds with the BJP over a host of issues, said the outlook for the ruling party going into the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was not a very bright one.
“I wish them well, but in politics and elections, no one knows what will happen. The current situation is difficult for them, they will have to do some things,” he said.
Malik claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the Adani issue will harm him. The prime minister should also speak on the Pulwama issue, he added.
He was referring to the terror attack on a convoy of security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama in February 2019. Forty CRPF personnel were killed in the attack, for which the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility.
In an interview with a news outlet earlier this month, Malik had claimed that PM Modi told him not to speak about lapses that led to the incident.
The former governor claimed that the Pulwama attack took place due to the incompetence and negligence of the CRPF and the Union home ministry, which was then headed by Rajnath Singh.
In this context, Malik touting Rajnath Singh as a prospective PM face in 2024, days after raising doubt over his abilities, is intriguing.
