If you touch Amartya Sen’s house…: Mamata’s stern warning to Visva Bharati
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday issued a stern warning against the eviction order issued by Visva Bharati University to Nobel laureate Amartya Sen. “If you touch Amartya Sen’s house, you don’t know me and what I can do,” said the CM while speaking to media persons in West Bengal’s Bolpur.
This comes a day after the Calcutta High Court stayed the university’s eviction notice till a lower court passes an order on the matter. The matter is scheduled for a hearing in the lower court on May 10.
The university had sent an eviction notice to Sen and accused him of being in possession of 1.38 acres of land on the Santiniketan campus, which is more than his legal entitlement of 1.25 acres. He was earlier asked to vacate the 13 decimals of land at his Santiniketan residence by May 6.
With her warning, Mamata Banerjee gave out the message that she will not tolerate Visva Bharati University’s move in any way. Earlier on Wednesday, she had given a message to TMC’s party leaders and workers at Bolpur station to start a movement against Visva Bharati’s eviction notice.
