‘India belongs to sadhus, not saints’, posters in Varanasi warn against Christmas celebrations at temples

Pictures have emerged in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh warning against Christmas celebrations at temples and draping Hindu deities in Santa Claus outfit.

The threats have been issued by an organisation called ‘Rashtriya Hindu Dal’ in Varanasi.

India belongs to sadhus, not saints

The poster read, “You are hereby informed that in the name of Christmas Day, which is inspired by western culture, you are warned not to insult Hindu deities by dressing them in Santa outfits and thus hurt sentiments of us sanatani Hindus. You are requested to maintain the the dignity of deities and the temple.”

Some of the posters have been pasted inside the temples in the city.

Rashtriya Hindu Dal has pasted such posters across all the temples in the city of Varanasi. The organisation said that it was a very responsible step as Hindu deities were dressed in Santa Claus outfit and made to look like jokers.
