An observant Indian ex-pat was honored by the Dubai Police at his place of employment for his courage after he stopped a criminal from escaping with cash worth 2.7 million dirhams when they were in the Deira neighborhood of Dubai.
According to a story published in the Khaleej Times on Wednesday, senior authorities from the Dubai Police surprised an Indian expatriate named Keshur Kara Chavada Karu Ghela, 32, at his place of employment on Monday to honor him.
The incident occurred one month ago in the Naif neighborhood of the Deira district.
The report quoted the director of the Naif police station, Dr. Major General Tariq Tahlak, as saying that the suspect intercepted two Asians carrying two bags containing a total of Dh 4,250,000 in cash in various currencies.
The suspect grabbed one of the bags and made a break for it.
“As the two Asian men shouted for help, Mr. Keshur saw the robber running with the stolen bag toward him. He bravely tackled the criminal, started wrestling with him, and pinned him to the ground until the police patrols arrived and made the arrest,” Tahlak said.
According to the report, his quick thinking helped foil a robbery attempt in the Naif area worth Dh 2.7 million (approximately 6.6 crores).
Ghela said he was happy to be honored by the Dubai Police in the presence of his colleagues. He said he would forever cherish the medal of honor.
Headed by Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commandant-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, the delegation that visited Ghela at his office included several senior officials, according to the Khaleej Times.
Maj Gen Al Mansouri explained that honoring Ghela at his workplace and among his colleagues and neighbors reflects Dubai Police’s commitment to strengthening community partnerships and reinforcing individuals’ sense of responsibility.
