Indiramma Athmeeya Bharosa: Telangana Chief Secretary told to consider extending benefits to municipal towns

Public interest litigation case filed by Gavinolla Srinivas challenging actions of the State, Municipal and Panchayat authorities

Hyderabad: A two-judge Bench of Telangana High Court, comprising Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Renuka Yara, while dealing with a public interest litigation case, directed the Chief Secretary of Telangana to consider the representation of Gavinolla Srinivas on extending the benefit of Indiramma Athmeeya Bharosa in municipal towns across the State and to take appropriate action.

The public interest litigation case was filed by Gavinolla Srinivas challenging the actions of the State, Municipal and Panchayat authorities in not extending the benefit of the Indiramma Athmeeya Bharosa scheme introduced vide GO 42 dated 10.01.2025 to municipal areas.

The scheme provides financial assistance of Rs 12,000 to beneficiaries in the villages for landless agricultural labour dependent on agriculture.

The sum was distributed in two installments of Rs 6,000 each bi-annually.

The counsel of the petitioner, Prabhakar Chikkudu, argued that the scheme is being implemented with respect to labourers residing in villages across the State but the same is not being implemented in the 129 municipal towns across the State.

The counsel sought for the application of the scheme to all agricultural labourers equally.

Observing that the scheme was issued and operated by the Panchayat Raj Department, the Bench left it open for the petitioner to make a representation to the Chief Secretary of the State and Chief Secretary of the Municipal Administration Urban Development Department for inclusion of municipal areas in the scheme and accordingly disposed of the matter.
