Intense thunderstorms expected in Hyderabad and districts on Mar 23

Hyderabad: Expect another day of intense thunderstorms accompanied by heavy winds and hail storms in Hyderabad and several districts of Telangana State. Based on analysis from weather forecasters and trends, thunderstorms and heavy winds are likely to intensify and become active towards Sunday evening.

For Sunday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)-Hyderabad has issued an orange alert (high intensity), which consists of a thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) and hailstorm, for KomramBheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda and Jangoan districts.

A yellow alert (moderate intensity) for Sunday, comprising thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30 to 40 kmph) has been issued by IMD for Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri, Adilabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.

Meanwhile, several parts of Hyderabad experienced thunderstorms between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. According to TSDPS data, between 8.30 am, on Saturday and 8.30 am on Sunday, Talla Basthi Community Hall, Musheerabad received 36.6 mm of rainfall followed by Jubilee Hills, Shaikpet mandal, which received 36.5 mm.

Multiple regions in Hyderabad that received 36.5 mm of rainfall between Saturday and Sunday are BHEL Factory (Ramachandrapuram), entire Shaikpet region, University of Hyderabad (Serilingampally mandal), GHMC Circle Office at Rajendranagar, Water Board office at Riyasathnagar (Bandlaguda mandal), Library building in Rein Bazaar, Yakutpura, SRT Colony (Charminar mandal) and Palton Community Hall (Amberpet).

In addition to regions in and around Hyderabad, several districts in Telangana also witnessed thunderstorms. The maximum rainfall of 38.8 mm was recorded in Bela, Adilabad and Laxmidevipalli mandal in Bhadradri Kothagudem followed by 38.7 mm at Sujathanagar (Bhadradri Kothagudem) and a few places in Adilabad include Jainad and Mavala.

Some of the isolated places in other districts that received thunder storms include Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Nagarkurnool and Mahabubnagar.
