IPS who probed Aryan Khan drugs case awarded President’s Police Medal
IPS Sanjay Kumar Singh, who led the investigation into the Aryan Khan drugs case, was awarded the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service on Republic Day.
Sanjay Kumar Singh is a 1996-batch Odisha IPS (Indian Police Service) cadre officer. He has served in different capacities with the Odisha Police and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In January 2021, he joined the Narcotics Control Bureau as the deputy director-general (DDG).
The cruise drug case in which Aryan Khan was arrested was handled by a team headed by Sameer Wankhede. The case was later taken over by a special investigation team led by Sanjay Kumar Singh, deputy director-general of the NCB headquarters in Delhi, in November 2021. Aryan Khan was given a clean chit by the NCB in May last year. .
Before joining the NCB, Singh had headed the Drug Task Force (DTF) of the Odisha Police as Additional Director General (ADG). During his tenure with the DTF, Singh launched a series of anti-drug drives in the state and busted several drug trafficking rackets in Bhubaneswar.
From 2008, Singh worked with the CBI till 2015 as Deputy Inspector General (DIG). During his stint with the CBI, he handled several high-profile cases.
A total of 901 police personnel received various medals on Republic Day.
