Israeli strikes hit houses at Rafah crossing, Gaza health ministry says 20 killed

Israeli missiles and air strikes struck three houses in southern Gaza’s Rafah area on Tuesday, killing at least 20 Palestinians, Hamas-run Gaza health officials told news agency Reuters. Several thousands of displaced Palestinians have been living in Rafah Border Crossing at the Egypt border to escape Iseaeli assaults in North.

The latest deaths come after residents of Khan Younis, a city also in southern Gaza, reported fierce gun battles between Hamas members and Israeli troops, the Reuters report added.

Israel has been facing mounting global pressure, even from the US – the country’s closest ally – for a Gaza ceasefire. Last week, US President Joe Biden said that though Israel currently has the support of most of the world, it is “starting to lose” it. However, Netanyahu has dismissed calls for a permanent Gaza ceasefire, and has vowed to eliminate Hamas from the Palestinian enclave.
