Jackie Shroff recalls losing his brother who died while saving a friend, calls him his first hero

Jackie Shroff has opened up about losing his brother at a young age and called the incident as traumatic. The actor lost his 17 year old brother in a tragic drowning accident.

Calling his elder brother his first real hero, Jackie revealed in an interview with Lehren Retro, that he was just 10 years old when his brother died while trying to save a friend from drowning. He added that generosity and kindness were the traits of his family and that his brother gave his life for a friend. Jackie Shroff added that it was traumatic, but it is the good memories that last longer.

In an earlier interaction with actor turned writer Twinkle Khanna, Jackie Shroff recalled how his father had warned his brother to not go to work on that ill fated day. He had shared, “Bhai ko bola tha, aaj kharab din hai, mat jaana bahar (He told my brother it’s a bad day and that he shouldn’t leave the house). He used to work at Century Mills. He was a mill hand. He said don’t go to your mill today. And he didn’t. But he went down to save somebody in the sea, and he drowned, without knowing how to swim.”
