Kamal Haasan Beats Akshay Kumar By A Margin As ‘Vikram’ Scores Double Of ‘Samrat Prithviraj’

Kamal Haasan made a solid comeback at the box office after a hiatus as his latest release Vikram has turned out to be a record breaking hit.

The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial gave Kamal the biggest opening weekend of his career and is already his biggest hit.

That’s not all, the film has recorded one of the biggest opening weekends of all time for a Tamil film.

According to Pinkvilla, the 3-day gross of Vikram in Tamil Nadu stands at Rs 64 crore and the all-India figure is in the range of Rs 100 crore.

Vikram is having a dream run in the US as it made it to the 7th spot in the list of top 10 films in the weekend. It was the biggest new release of the week for any film at the US box office collecting $1.7 million.

At the worldwide box office, Vikram turned out to be the third biggest film for the weekend beating Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film grossed Rs 150 crore in the opening weekend.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala wrote, “#Vikram has debuted at No.3 at the WW Box office for the June 3rd to 5th weekend Box office.. 1. #TopGunMaverick – $167 Million 2. #JurassicWorldDominion – $55 Million 3. #Vikram – $21 Million 4. #DoctorStrange – $20.65 Million 5. #TheBadGuys – $12 Million”.

The film also starring Fahadh Faasil & Vijay Sethupathi clashed at the box office with three other pan-India films – Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj and Adivi Sesh’s Major

The Akshay Kumar starrer received mixed response and opened on a low note with minimal growth on day 2. However, on its day 3, Samrat Prithviraj recorded good numbers and there is a hope that if the film sustains on Monday, it has the chance to do well in the long run since there is no major Hindi release till June 24.

Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi directorial collected in the range of Rs 40 crore net with a gross of Rs 46 crore in the opening weekend.

The third release of the week, Major has done fairly well for its budget.

The opening weekend of the film is Rs 25 crore gross with Rs 4.75 crore from the Hindi version.

The film is already at break-even stage with all its stakeholders and is now entering the profit zone.

Major has also performed well in the US and is heading towards the $1 million mark.
