Kashmiri pandits protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar seeking resettlement, security

Irked over the recent killings of Kashmiri pandits by terrorists in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, members of the community staged a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Sunday seeking security and resettlement.

The agitators demanded justice for Kashmiri Pandits Rahul Bhatt and Rajni Bala, who were gunned down by terrorists in broad daylight in Budgam and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir over a month ago.

A protester, Rajan Pandit, said they should not be used as scapegoats.

“Kashmiri pandits are constantly receiving death threats and are being targeted,” he said.

Vishal Raina has been holding protests in Kashmir since May 31 over the death of school teacher Rajni Bala. He had been receiving death threats continuously, he said.

Raina said Kashmiri Pandits had been used by the government as a vote bank. “They are not doing anything for our safety,” he said.

Another agitator, Sanjay Bhatt, said, “If security is needed in the valley, the government will have to resettle Hindu pandits. Only then, will Hindus get security.”

Kashmiri Pandits have been holding regular protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar to voice their demands. “After the murder of Rahul Bhatt, there has been tension in Kashmir. Kashmiri Pandits are scared,” Bhatt said.
