‘Khakee: The Bihar Chapter’ Proves Gangster Shows Can Work Despite No Profanity Or Obscenity

If you are going to watch any content that has the name Neeraj Pandey on it, you surely will get an edge-of-the-seat experience and the adrenaline rush that comes with his written scenes.

On 25 November, Khakee: The Bihar Chapter was released on Netflix.

At first sight, the series looks like a typical gangster-police face-off, but when you dive deep into the show, it has so much more to offer.

Khakee is a real-life inspired crime thriller written and created by Neeraj Pandey which is set in the Sheikhpura district of Bihar.

The series is based on the novel, ‘Bihar Diaries: A True Story On How Bihar’s Most Dangerous Criminal Was Caught’ written by IPS officer Amit Lodha who has penned down the real story of how he caught Ashok Mahto, one of the most feared gangsters of Bihar.

Beside the terrific star cast, the series should receive high praise for another reason; though the series is based on the gangster genre, it has almost no cuss words, and no obscenity which seems to go contradictory to the previous comments made by some actors regarding the OTT shows.

Many actors such as Ronit Roy had commented on the obscenity or profanity that an OTT show brings with it. He had said, “Audiences have had enough of abusing on OTT medium, they are not liking it”.

Popular series like Mirzapur, Rangbaaz, and Sacred Games are a few examples which faced acquisitions of succeeding due to the abusive language and bold scenes integrated into them.

The series is the debut of director Bhav Dhulia, who had previously worked as an assistant director on Paan Singh Tomar and Drishyam.

The story is tight, the screenplay is crispy and the dialogues will take you to Bihar and that is the USP of the show. The dialogues don’t seem to sound ‘Bhojpuri’ but they are actually in the Bihari dialect and the actors have done a brilliant job with the dialogues.

Umashankar Singh has also written the dialogues for Khakee and has worked previously in the super-successful Maharani.
