King Charles’ Coronation Concert – all the best photos and royal reactions
The royal family can put on a show. The Coronation Concert that was held on 7th May 2023 in honour of King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s crowning was a spectacle
The line up included Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli, Paloma Faith and Take That. They performed to crowds of other royals, celebrity guests, and about 20,000 members of the public. Not to mention the millions sat at home watching live on the BBC.
Earlier in the day, the shots of the thousands of people entering the historic castle were breathtaking. The event was such a huge operation as the East Terrace was used to host a live concert for the very first time.
Prince William and Princess Catherine walked past spectators to their seats in the front row of the royal box. Smart, yet relaxed, the pair went for suits for the occasion, with Catherine’s red suit standing out in the crowd.
Dressed in a gold foil ball gown, the star performed her pop hit ‘Roar’, much to the delight of the crowds.
“I am so happy to be here with you people, I love you so much,” she told the crowd. “I am so happy to celebrate this whole weekend, I got to bring my mom she is so happy to be here. We got to stay in Windsor Castle – no big deal.”
Along the row from the Prince and Princess of Wales with their two eldest children, were the King and Queen themselves, dressed much less formally than their heavy coronation gear from the day before. They waved to the crowds as they arrived to take their seats.
Children and adults alike huddled close to the royal box to wave, greet and get those all important snaps of the royal family up close.
Olly Murs, British singer/songwriter brought energy with him as he stepped out onto the stage at the Coronation Concert. “I’m feeling ready and pumped for today,” Olly had said on social media before the event.
The Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress – AKA Queen of Afrobeats – took to the stage in an impressive green outfit. She performed ‘Keys to the Kingdom’ which went down a treat with the crowds.
As the sun went down, Windsor Castle looked a dream lit up. Lionel Richie took to the stage.
The US pop singer did not disappoint as crowds sang along, danced and celebrated as he sang his repertoire for the evening.
Crowds looked up during the concert to see illuminated drones creating images in the sky. This image of the crowds, seascape banner and ‘flying’ whale shows it was a real spectacle.
And while these carefully timed and meticulously rehearsed shows were underway, Alexis Ffrench and Zak Abel performed a cover of ‘Don’t You Forget About Me’ by Simple Minds.
The military band also had their moment to pay homage to the New King.
The Prince of Wales got up on the stage to pay tribute to his “Pa” King Charles. His speech was emotional, saying the late Queen Elizabeth II would be “a proud mother”. He added he was ‘so proud’ of his father.
The concert was a spectacle throughout, with the best yet to come. A long-awaited return of the band, Take That, was seen on stage for the first time in four years.
The crowd were dancing along to the tunes, even the royal family took to their feet.
The band brought the coronation concert to a close, with a roar of applause from the crowd.
