Kishan Reddy slams Congress govt over urea black market sales

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy accused the Congress government of failing farmers by allowing urea to be sold in the black market for Rs.400, despite Central subsidies keeping the official price at Rs.266. He alleged stock diversion and sought accountability

Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Friday criticised the Congress government for failing to address farmers’ issues and alleged that urea bags were being sold in the black market for Rs.400.

He demanded that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy explain to farmers how urea was available in the black market but not at Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS).

Addressing the media, Kishan Reddy said each urea bag was priced at Rs.266 owing to a Central subsidy of Rs.2,400–2,600 per bag.

“While farmers are struggling to get urea at PACS, the same bags are being sold in the black market at Rs.400. What is the conspiracy behind this, and why is the Congress government not acting?” he asked.

The Union Minister pointed out that even before the rainy season began, the State government had nearly 270 metric tonnes of urea left over from the Rabi season. Despite this, it was citing shortages, he said, adding that the government must ensure urea is not diverted to chemical industries.
